"High Noon" (1952)- Will Kane (Gary Cooper) is the AFI's selection as the fifth Best Hero in American film. This quintessential western is tautly and finely crafted study of the meaning of manhood. It is also a subtle allegory about the danger represented by the 1950s Joe McCarthy/HUAC witch-hunt for subversives. Seating is limited so reservations are encouraged.
